You cannot receive with a closed fist! The statement is true physically, energetically, and metaphorically. Are your fists closed more than you realize?
Think about when a thought pops in your head about a certain desire; it doesn’t matter what the desire is, it may be big or small. Are your next thoughts based upon why that won’t work, or why you can’t have that, or all the steps, and/or effort it would take to receive your desire?
Today, I am going to ask you to take a look at how your predominate thought patterns, the conditioned way you were taught to think about life in general could be your ‘closed fist.’ Each and everyone human has been taught how to think about life. You have been taught how to judge yourself, others, and life in general through your conditionings. Your perceptions, your perspectives have all been shaped through your conditionings. Today, I am going to ask you to consider that maybe how you were taught think could be your closed fist and you have never realized that fact. You may have realized that things are not turning out the way you would have liked them to be, but you may not know why. Today, I am going to ask you to look at your desires, your wants, and to examine if they match with your predominate thoughts about youself, and life in general.
I am talking about taking some time and really looking at the way you were conditioned to think. I am not talking about blaming, accusing, or judging the people that conditioned you to think this way. Let’s face facts here; either situations happened in their lives that created them to think that way, or they were also conditioned to think that way as well. The blame has to stop somewhere, and Awareness has to begin at some point. Why not right now?
In most cases, predominate thought patterns are conditioned thought patterns; they are one and the same. They are the most travelled neurological pathways in the mind. These predominate thought patterns are not intrinsically negative or positive; they are nothing more than the way you were taught and trained to think.
As a life coach, clients come to me because their lives are not what they want them to be. They may come to me about a specific area of their lives or life in general. Through talking with them, I see that in most situations, their lives are a direct reflection of their general, predominate thought patterns. For example (and this is a very common one), many people I work with have been raised by someone that grew up during the depression. This type of event or ‘global consciousness’ will often create a person who holds onto everything. They think ‘hand-me-downs’ are just fine, nothing comes for free, it is better to hold onto a job than to be without one, even if you hate it. They may even think that the world’s economy dictates their happiness. They will often think that work comes before any type of pleasure, and leisure time is a sign of laziness. This is only one example, and there are many other expressions of this type of thinking besides what I have mention here, but I think this illustrates my point.
Predominate thought patterns will play themselves out. In other words, our predominate thoughts, perspectives, judgments, etc. create the life that we live. Also, in many situations, we have been taught confusing, or opposing thoughts patterns, and this often manifests as conflicting situations in our life. For example, you may be the type of person that constantly seems to almost get ‘there,’ and then something fails, and things never seem to come into full reality. In many situations, this is happening because you are not aware that you are the one who is sending out mixed signals; confusing or opposing thought patterns because of your conditionings.
Self Awareness Is The Key
In each moment, you are either in a state of participation with the mind and its thoughts, or you are watching and observing the thoughts as they are happening. Most people participate or engage with a thought simply because that is the most habitual thing to do. Most people don’t even realize they have the ability to watch the mind. I want you to know that you can, and experience the liberation that follows that realization! I also want you to know that it is your participation with thoughts that create your reality. Since many of you are habitually participating with your thoughts, and most of your thought processes are because of your past conditionings, I want you to begin to realize that you are often, habitually, unconsciously recreating the past over and over again.
I would like for you to get to a place where you are so practiced at observing your thoughts that when you see a thought you really enjoy, you can begin to participate with that thought completely, consciously, purposefully and use it in creating your reality. Be Born Again
Each day is a new day. Actually, each moment is a new moment, but if you are unconsciously continuing to let the past force itself into a present moment, you are going to continue to recreate the same old, same old. So, when I use the term ‘born again,’ I am not talking about the traditional, Christian perspective of being ‘saved’ and ‘born again.’ I am referring to having enough Self Awareness that you are not on auto-pilot because of your conditionings. I am referring to having the Awareness to pick and choose the thoughts you focus on and/or put your energy into. Every day, and in each moment, you are fresh and new, if you allow yourself to be. Are you going to allow that to be so? If you begin to practice Self Awareness through observing the mind, you can begin to liberate yourself from your past and your conditionings. You can begin to liberate yourself from the conditioned thought forms that are governing how you look at life, as well as what you are getting out of life.
A Different Approach
In most cases, when something is not going the way that you would like it to be going, most people would first attempt to change what is happening around them; to change something outside of themselves. They think that if this situation were different, then they could be different. This type of thinking is not going to give you the long-lasting results you truly desire. You have to begin to realize that if you want the outside to change, you are going to have to begin by changing the inside, and you cannot do that by remaining in the auto-pilot of your conditionings. You can do this by beginning to practice Self Awareness through techniques such as observing the mind or meditation. I personally have found that utilizing both techniques together has helped me more than any other things I have ever tried. So, if you are truly desiring change in your life, or if you have desires that are just not manifesting, look inward! You most likely will see that things are not changing simply because you are staying the same!
