I Am A Heathen!

Yesterday, as I was talking with someone, I described myself as being a ‘heathen.’ After I used the word, I looked it up to make sure that I had used the word correctly. I had not only used the word correctly, but it also got me thinking about the word and its meaning. Now, I would like to take a stance and come out of the closest (once again) and proclaim; “I am a heathen and here are the reasons why I am proud of it!”

Heathen: 1) an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody who does not acknowledge the God of the Bible, Torah, or Koran. 2) an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody’s way of life, degree of knowledge, or nonbelief in religion.

Ok. So, it’s slang used to describe someone negatively because they do not believe in the God of the ‘Big Books,’ and/or do not believe in religion. I wear that title PROUDLY! No, I do not have much to do with that God of the Bible (the God that mankind has created to sustain itself in fear, condemnation, judgment, need or requirement), nor do I believe in the religion that has been created to maintain the God of those same attributes. I really do not care that it is a term used to insult someone; I do not look at it as an insult. It insults me that people think because of my connection with Spirit that I would fall into the category of those people that are based in that type of God and religion. I stand tall that I am not part of that crowd.

Being called names used to bother me; not anymore! I now realize that we use names and labels to describe ourselves all of the time. Sometimes we wear the title proudly, like a badge of honor and other times, it is just a way to describe a facet of ourselves to others.

What about when someone else calls you a name? I have now realized that when someone calls someone a name, even though they are attempting to describe another, they are actually describing themselves and their own thoughts. They are letting you know what they think the other person happens to be.

Yes, I am a heathen! I am a man that has taken the time to look at the God of the Big Books and Religion and I did not like what I saw. I continued to look and met a God that loves and is kind.

I know that some people have trouble putting me into their box because I so loudly profess my disagreement with the God of Religion and continue to profess my love for God, love for Spirit, love of Jesus and his message. I just cannot reconcile myself to carry all of that other stuff along with the God that I know. I somewhat admire those people that can have a relationship with that God and are able to not carry all of that man-made stuff along with it; I am not one of them.

So, what is my point with this post? I imagine that there are more people out there like me; people that cannot reconcile having a relationship with that other God, and I urge them to not throw the baby out with the bath water. Take the time to look at God, meet God, and commune with God, in any manner you would like. I urge you to commune anyway you like; there is not an ‘appropriate way.’ Don’t let anyone tell you there is. God will tell you and show you that you are perfect, just like you are. God does not make mistakes and there is no such thing as ‘appropriate.’ Commune the way you want to, that feels good to you, and let the love of God fill every cell of your being.

Blessed Be!

Signed,

The Heathen, Holy Man Whore
