When Your Belief Systems Are Being Challenged

I have spent the last week or so talking about my perspective of God, how I look at God, etc. and the choices that we make. Today, I want to discuss the ‘perceived heaviness’ that we experience as we are being called to look at our belief systems about God and the belief about whether or not we will go to Heaven or Hell. I fully understand the ‘heaviness’ people experience with this, as I have gone through it myself, and have seen many others go through it. My desire is that this sharing, and this post may make it easier for you.
From my perspective, and first of all, it helps to begin to realize that you are being affected and effected by a belief system. Secondly, a belief system has no power except the power that you have given it in the past and continue to give it in the present.
So what is a belief system? A belief system is nothing more than a collection of similar thoughts that have collected in your mind because of what someone else has told you to believe, and your experiences because of those beliefs. Those thoughts have been ‘filed’ away with similar thoughts and the ‘file’ has become big enough (and you have given them enough significance and importance) to become a belief system. This is a process that happens inside the mind with every human being; however each person’s belief systems are different because of what the individual has been taught through their conditionings.
Now, back to the specific topic…
You have been taught specific things about God, and Heaven and Hell. Now you are at a place in your life where those belief systems are conflicting with what is happening. It could have been because of choices that you have made or possibly coming to grips with your lifestyle, sexual orientation, etc. Whatever it may be, your old belief system about God and your ‘salvation’ are now in question because of what you are going through and have been taught. You may have even been taught that it is blasphemous to question or challenge God. So, what do you do with this?
This is where coaching could be of assistance to you.
Self Awareness would support you to understand the mind, how it works and why it operates the way it does. Self Awareness would support you to realize that no thought has any power, except the power that you give it. Self Awareness would support you to realize that you have ‘bought into’ what you have been taught and continue to buy into it today. Self Awareness would support you to realize that God gives you (and everyone) a mind to use along this journey, but at this point, you are being used by the mind. From my perspective, and most importantly, Self Awareness would support you to realize that God does not embrace you through the mind, no more than you can embrace God through the mind.
Having these realizations WILL NOT take away the fear that has been created because of your belief systems and your present day questioning. However, Self Awareness will help you to realize that fears having nothing to do with your Now and they will help you respond to the fear in your Now.
At some point you will have to come to grips with the fact that an old belief system is negatively affecting you now, and you will have to come to grips that intellectual knowledge is effecting experiential knowledge. More importantly, you will have to choose which is more important: keeping and maintaining the old belief system or evolving into something new!
From my experience, God/All That Is/Existence/Universe/Life, and your Soul wants you to live in unity and will bring up stuff to show you the places that you are giving power to that which is keeping you from this unity. Have you ever considered that the conflict that you are experiencing is because the Universe is supporting you to drop the old belief system and live in unity?
There really is no magic pill that will give you the ability to avoid the natural steps that everyone goes through as they are evolving beyond any belief system; you are just going to have to go through it. However, you can go through it without Awareness and suffer or you can go through it with evolving Awareness, and ride the wave until it completes it’s cycle. I have found that there is liberation because of the willingness to look at, and go through this! I have also found out that there is freedom in realizing that the mind, your thoughts, and what you have been taught have no power over you once you have realized exactly what they are and what they are attempting to do!
Much love, and much Awareness! The unity that you experience will all make it worth it!

I cringe when I think about all the money I wasted on “therapy”, which only served to honor fear and let the mind go crazy, waist high in shit. However, it was in fact, all part of my personal process. Through my own coaching journey, I have come to realize that the “spiritual beliefs” I held were never really mine at all, they were in fact the ones chosen for me by my family of origin, school and social circle. Fear was my best friend for YEARS of deconstructing this mess. However, BEING has predominantly replaced fear now, and the beliefs I hold, I can truly say are my own. Do I have all the answers? Hell no. The questions keep popping up. But, what I do have, is the awareness that fear is actually a signal of something deeper–usually a wedge between me and truth.
