Attempting To Change The Outside Is Futile

In my last post, “You Cannot Receive With A Closed Fist,” I mentioned that “when something is not going the way that you would like it to be, most people would first attempt to change what is happening around them,” and I knew that I would be elaborating on this subject some more.

So often when things are not going the way a person likes, they attempt to change what is happening around them. They may do it by attempting to change what the outside looks like, whether it be the outside of themselves or what the situation may look like, or they may attempt to change the people that are around them. Either way, they are attempting to change something exterior to them. Not only is this act redundant but it will also become very tiring.

People, it will do us all good if the population of this planet will get the point that I am about to make. Sometimes a situation is just a situation; not necessarily a pleasant one, but it is nothing more than one ‘energy’ bumping up against another ‘energy.’ These types of situations are no different than say a thunderstorm, tornado, etc., and just like it is futile to attempt to fight against a natural happening, it is also futile to fight against those types of situational sequences. You just have to ‘hunker down’ and ride it out. I wrote more about this in my post “Pooka Happens.” Then, in other situations, you are the one that is causing the chaos or upheaval because of your judgments, belief systems, and/or one of your power and control games. Then there are the situations where you are the one attracting these things to youself, the things that you are not enjoying, because of some form of unconsciousness. It is not intentional, but you are doing it just the same. In either situation; a ‘pooka happens’ situation, one of your power and control games, or a form of unconsciousness; trying to change the outside is futile. In the pooka happens situations, you wouldn’t attempt to stop a storm from happening, and attempting to change the outside is futile in any situation when actually the problem is rooted inside of you.

Actually, and more specifically, the problem is rooted in the conditioned, egoic mind. This is not the authentic self, it is just the self that you have worked with most of your life, as well as the self that has run the show most of your life. This is not about ‘fixing the soul’ either; the soul always has been good and remains good. The soul is not going to steam roll itself into your knowing its existence. It is about you realizing, understanding, and having the awareness that there is something more to you than the mind. It is about understanding how the mind functions, its antics, and work around it. It is about beginning to use the mind, rather than being used by the mind; for it is being used by the mind that creates these problems that we face. It is about having a relationship, a communion with your Spirit.

Most people say that their problems are because of this, that, and the other thing. Most people would much rather point the finger at something and say, “You are my problem,” rather than realizing the problem lies within. All problems exist because you (the mind) are not getting something that you (the mind) are not wanting. The desire not being met is creating feelings such as sadness, anger or fear, and between the feelings that are being felt viscerally in the body, and the mind not getting what it desires they label those situations as problems.

As I said earlier, the soul is just fine, and the problem exists because the mind has labelled the situation as one. When a person begins to have a conscious communion with Spirit, something begins to change inside of them. First, they begin to see that there is something there, something omnipresent, that is more than their mind. It does not take away the times that the mind may label something as a problem, but through the communion with Spirit, the so-called ‘problem’ does not have the same impact on you. As a person begins to embrace this communion with Spirit, it is as if the problems seem to neutralize simply because you are not engaging with the problem in the same manner as you once did.

Communion With Spirit
We feed our bodies each and every day. We feed our minds in lots of different ways, and I have heard people say that feeding your soul is as important as feeding the body and the mind. I understand their point, but I do disagree with the concept of feeding the soul. The point that I am making here is that as we commune with our soul, we are being fed by Spirit. It is this ‘spiritual nutrition’ that gives us the support to move through life with a grace and ease that someone does not have without it. There is nothing mystical or magical that you have to do to have this communion. There are no requirements to have this communion. There is no right or wrong way to have this communion. You can commune in any way you want or would like. My own personal preference is through meditation and/or prayer. Sometimes, I have the communion as I am out and about in nature, or working in nature. Sometimes, I have this communion as I am creating something artistic or cooking a great meal to share with family and friends. Sometimes, I have communion with Spirit as I am playing with my God-daughter, Gabrielle. My point is, how you commune is up to you, but begin to commune. I also find that taking the time to commune in some form or fashion each and every day supports me greatly. I find that when I don’t commune each day, slowly but emphatically the problems seem to creep back in with the same vengeance they once had.

I really cannot explain why this communion with Spirit seems to neutralize the ‘problematic situations,’ but they do. Maybe it is because of the light that the Sprit shines into those dark places. Maybe it is because of the ‘energetic nutrition’ that feeds us through the communion. Who knows, all I know is it happens. If you don’t believe me, try it! I challenge you to try it. I challenge you to try a different approach to facing these problems you are having. I challenge you to begin your day, for the next 21 days in some form of communion with Spirit. I challenge you to start your day with at least a 15 minute meditation, or something like that. What do you have to lose? Think about, you have been attempting to change things in the old manner your whole life; has it worked so far? I am asking you to spend at least 15 minutes each morning for the next 21 days in this communion. That is only dedicating 5 hours and 15 minutes somewhere over your next 21 days, and see what happens. It is completely passive; you don’t have ‘to do’ anything. The hardest part about it is creating the time for it and then sticking to it. Give it a shot. If you would like some assistance with your meditation, you can find support right here on our site http://loveliveandlaugh.com/podcasts/ and http://loveliveandlaugh.com/meditation/ The old way of addressing problems has not worked thus far, or you would not have read this article all the way through. Sit down, shut your eyes, and consciously breath for 15 minutes at the start of your day. If the mind becomes active during this time, observe the mind and its rants. This does not mean to continue to think about what the mind is saying, just observe and breathe, breathe and observe. I know that at the end of those 21 days, you too will be a believer!

Much love and Namaste…
